The Institute for Biomedicine on Ageing (IBA) at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU - Germany) has a long research tradition in older persons. The IBA holds one of the few Geriatric Chairs in Germany and covers a broad range of aging research areas (clinical and basic sciences, mainly in nutrition and physical activity). With respect to physical activity, the IBA has conducted exercise intervention in pre-frail and frail older persons. Furthermore, the IBA has experience in addressing functional limited community-dwelling older persons together with General Practitioner networks in fall prevention using multi-faceted intervention schemes. The IBA is also involved in implementing geriatric educational and research processes on different professional levels (political, NGOs, professional, scientific). The link between clinical care and research projects is also guaranteed due to a close collaboration with the Hospital of the Barmherzige Brüder in Regensburg (N=905 bed hospital).
The IBA is part of the Interdisciplinary Center of Aging at the FAU investigating the aging process both from a gerontological and geriatric perspective.
